As a 22 junkie and grip junkie. I couldn't just leave it there.
Yeah got bit again.
Serial is in the 675, range.
The grips are really nice.
Not sure of maker could they be Griffin&Howe ?

That package is pushing my buttons - love the grips and the Outdoorsman AND the HBH. It would have come home with me as well.
Where did you find that one?
Thanks for sharing.

Just sitting at A local gun store.
Think it has what's named a Call silver bead also.
For less than 750 OTD.....I just couldn't resist.

Paul you did good!!
Lets see a pic or two of the insides of those grips.
I sold a set or two very much like these and the backs were identical in nature. Curious if yours are also like mine.
Do they use a S&W factory screw?

I have a set of pre-war Roper's that came on an N frame that look just like your grips, except they have the center diamonds. Check inside yours for the square holder holes common to the Rope grips.

I think I would try to look up Bob Crabbe especially since you have a date to go along with the name.

I found a newspaper reference to a Robert Crabbe in the Holyoke Daily Transcript-Telegram who was a mechanical instructor in September 1941. No "Bob Crabbe" shows up in 1941 in Mass.

Paul those grips have the same vertical router marks of the two sets I had for Colts! I had a feeling they were made by the same guy/company.
The wood is exceptional and if i remember correctly has a bit of a dark purplish hew.
I would show the colt forum thread but am not sure if its ok with the rules

For what its worth.....
There are a couple men named Robert Crabbe that I have found. I based my search on the 1941 date and the proximity to Massachusetts.
One was a dairyman and one was a printer. One was from Hampshire and one from Worcester. One was Scottish and one Canadian. Worcester man had a son who would have been 24 in 1941 as well.

You scored a touchdown on that deal!
I'm guessing late production by the large right side trademark.
Btw bet the grips are easily worth 1/3 of what you paid alone.
$500 for a pre war OD I would say the dealer got "bit"....that and the poor fool that probably sold it to him for $100.

Thanks
They sure didn't know smith's
They had a 17-3 priced a couple hundred higher than this.
The kicker was it had unrelieved diamond target stocks.

Thats good to know. I have not seen links to other forums on here in the past. At least in the sections I peruse.
Here is the grip thread for a set of grips I believe were likely made
by the same person or place.
I owned two sets. The other set identical to Pauls but in Colt

Gorgeous in every way. Could the stocks be Sanderson? Who ever made them sure did some fine work.
What a great revolver at bargain basement price. I am very jealous here.

Thank you Sir
It was definitely a lucky find.
The grips don't have the traits we've come to associate with Sanderson
Particularly the checkering pattern/style
It doesn't seem a lot is known about Griffin & Howe grips.
It does appear as quite a few sets have the same attributes as these.
