Hi;
I had a .38/44 Heavy Duty (long action), five inch barrel, nickeled.
With .38 special ammo it printed low (nine inches) at 25yds.
Having the chambers bored out to .357 magnum, the magnum ammo printed to POA at 25yds.
Was there a high veocity .38 ammo for .38/44 Revolvers?
I now realize that I committed a SIN having the chambers bored out.

Well, yes. It was the .38-44 round, a .38 Special loaded up to low-end .357 velocities. This was the whole rationale behind the revolver.

Jimmy,
Don't worry, if you intend to keep the gun, just shoot 38 SPL and any of the +P will work real well. The 38-44 Spl ammo would send a 160gr bullet at about 1150 fps, so it was pretty quick. If you don't mind, would you email me your serial number for my database? I hope this helps,
Bill
