Serial Number/handgun info

I have an old revolver with the serial number partially worn off. Looks like the serial number is 6002**. Any guesses on year of manufacture?

There are many types of guns having the same serial number. Please provide the information in the sticky along with a few pictures for a positive identification. Most of the time, a serial number alone is not enough. And in fact it may not even be a Smith and Wesson.
