Yesterday I happened upon a new gun store in town and had to stop in for a look. A new place with a fair selection of new model guns, revolvers as well as semi-autos which was refreshing to see. They had a small display case of used and consignment guns too. I believe they have only been open for a couple months now at the longest.
Anyway, in the used gun display, tucked away in a corner was a little nickeled snubby that caught my eye. I asked to take a look and I quickly pegged it as a Terrier, guessing a 1953 to 1955 build based on the four screw frame and no main spring tension screw. Reasonable priced too at below $400 California dollars. The gun appeared to be lihghtly used due to the mild turn line so I suspect it spent a lot of time in a sock drawer.
Needless to say it came home with me. During my thourough cleaning I found the grips to be original and numbered to the gun. Shipping proved to be July 1955 according to the Master of all things S&W. The nickel finish is hard to capture, but I think I'm getting better. Here are a couple shots of my new to me Terrier, Pre-32 in .38 S&W, SN 77485.

Very nice. I just bought a twin in blue and I was wondering if it was 1955 or 56 with a serial almost exactly 3,000 higher.

I bought a Model 32 last year and was totally amazed at its ability to shoot. With old factory ammo, I put 5 shots into 5" at 25 yds. Right on top of the front sight. Your nickle pre trumps mine, totally cool. Congrats.

Nice little snubby! You don't see many of those around .. and you don't see many new gun shops either.
Thanks for the pics,
Jerry

One of the most fun Lil Smiths you could have gotten! I have one from 56/Blue/ and the frame size is great!
You did real well with it's purchase!!!!
Peter.

What a sweet score! Good for you.
Where is the new gun store? I may go window shopping at The Shootist some time in the next couple of months and might swing by the new place if it is not too far away.

David,
The store isn't new anymore, the original post of mine is nigh on to two years old. If you're down in Temecula check out Faith Armory, that is where I found this gem.

Hmm, usually I am more observant than that. I guess I just flunked situational awareness for this evening.
Thanks for the reference. I'll give them a look the next time I am over that way.
