I've been looking at a 3 inch model 36 square butt that dealer states was made in 1959. It's in mint condition and the price is $730 before tax. Is this a good price or no?

Welcome to the forum

I would pass, as I think he is about $200 too high.

I just bought one less than mint for $325 from 68

On the one hand I like that price, hoping my 3" square butt 37 nickel can fetch the same. But I suspect closer to $500.00 is more realistic. In CA I've seen the price of these things (3" J frames) just all over the place, from $300.00 or so to $750.00.

Around here they go for in the $375 to $425 range. He is looking for his next sucker. You would never get your money out of that gun.

I agree with Landpimp, about twice the going rate here in the SE.

I recently, about 3 weeks ago, bought a 36-1 square butt that was truely like new. No box or papers but looked to have been loaded, put in a sock drawer and forgotten. No evidence it had ever been fired and not even a faint turn line on the cylinder. Price $325.

Great little guns and I've bought several others over the years. But, they just don't pull that much cash.

If that dealer was at sea, he should be charged with attempted piracy.

The gun is a great item, but FAR overpriced. Was this in a pawn shop? They're notorious for overcharging. sjmjax has the right price in mind, abut $325-375.
