Could someone help? I have had a revolver hidden in my safe for awhile.I have the 3rd edition standard catalog of S&W and as far as I can tell it is a 32 regulation police pre war model. It has 5 screws, walnut round butt grips numbered to the gun.The catalog says that some were seen with no monogram on the sideplate but monogram on the grip. This is the case with my gun.Serial # 543xxx.

Welcome to the forum. That's a handsome piece.
With a S/N in the 543xxx range, I'd suspect a postwar transitional model. Some or all of the pieces might be prewar, but assembly and shipping probably occurred in the late 1940s.

That's not a Regulation Police model, it's a .32 Hand Ejector model, made post war, probably about 1948. The difference between a Hand Ejector model and a Regulation Police model is the butt shape. The hand Ejector is a round butt, as is the above gun, and a Regulation Police is a Square butt. Most .32 hand Ejectors shipped after WW2 had checkered medalion wood grips instead of the hard rubber type seen on pre-war guns. Ed.

Yes, a post war gun. Pre war guns ended at serial # 536XXX. But your gun has two clearly prewar parts: the medium size ejector rod head (notice the difference from the gun immediately above) and the nicely sculpted thumbpiece for the cylinder release.
