Miss May, 1956 was shipped 5/15/1956 to my home state of Texas. S&W produced 282 .44 Magnums in May '56. The first S&W I owned was purchased at Holt's Sporting Goods in Wichita Falls which was run by the brother of the shop owner in Lubbock. This one has particularly nice stocks I think.
Enjoy
Chuck

J.C. it was a Model 57 as there wasn't a .44 Magnum to be had due to you know who in 1973. The closest I came to one was watching Magnum Force at the movies right before heading off to Ranger school at Ft Benning. Hard to believe that was over 35 years ago. Where does the time go....

Where in Lubbock was Holt's Sporting Goods located? I bought a revolver in Lubbock in 1962 from a place just north of downtown. I went back after the "May 11th 1970 Tornado" to try and locate the shop, but everything was changed.

rayb, I don't know where Holt's in Lubbock was located as in those days, Wichita Falls where I grew up was too far from Lubbock to ever go there. I didn't see that city until my kids started going to Tech. Maybe someone on the forum originally from there can tell us where Holt's was located.

There was a sporting goods store on 13th St. just across the street from Sears. (the Sears building is now the City Hall) I bought a fine MacGregor baseball glove there in the late 50's. The store's name then was The Sports Center, but it seems it was named something else before that. Holt's rings a bell. I have some feelers out to some other long-time Lubbock people. This got me to wondering too.

Update...One old-timer thinks there was a Holts store at 6th and College (later University) across from the TT football stadium.

RCdeck- Thanks for the link and picture. I'll put this with the gun as I'm sure it's her first home out of the factory.

Jim glad you enjoy the posts on the 44 Magnum. I do too and enjoy seeing everyone's posts that show my favorite caliber, regardless the picture quality. As far as the photography skills go, there really are some top notch photographers on this forum now and previous. For me, photography is still a skill to be learned and it's more about good equipment than skill, at least in my case, believe me

T, good to hear from you. The May gun turned out to be one of the tougher ones to find even though 282 were produced that month. Besides your's and mine, wonder where the other 280 are?

Thanks RCdeck for the research. That building later became the Suzuki motorcycle store.
