I got to handle a .44 spl.tonight that was for sale and I am wanting some feedback and opionions. It was a 4" nickeled gun that someone had the trigger, hammer and the front site gold plated. The nickle is in VG shape, the gold is mostly worn off.The Sn. was 2500,and thats how much he wanted for it,$2500.00.I think this is way to high by abought $1500.00 at least, what do yall think?

I"d say it is quite a bit too high...
I bought one in similar condition (you don't say anything about the stocks... and they do make a lot of difference) not long ago on an auction for about $450.
Is the nickel original finish?... I'm guessing it isn't....
It is possible to restore the gun, but not cheap.

Well, based upon you're description the serial number is low and the barrel length, if correct, is definitely desireable. The most common was the 6 1/2 inch. Other lengths often bring a premium.
But, it sounds like a pimped up refinish which changes everything in terms of value. I believe the asking price is way over the top if this is, and most certainly seems to be, a refinished specimen. The 4 inch barrel would demand a premium, but even if it were all original, it would have to be a high percentage condition example to command that price. Unless the revolver is special in some other way, say attributed perhaps to some famous (or infamous) person or event, it still an aftermarket refinished gun. Personally, I'd suggest that you trust your instincts....and pass on that asking price of $2500.
It's difficult to estimate a value without seeing the piece, but if it's complete and shootable, refinished without the original stocks, I think $600 to $800 would be in the ballpark.

Thanks for the replies.I forgot to tell about the grips, they were jay scott white pearls with a gold colored t-grip.Also I forgot to say that the flutes on the cyl.were gold plated to.He says it once belonged to a LE officer who once shot somebody during a holdup or a escape or something like that. But he has no proof of anything just a story.I offered him $1000.00 for it just because I want one bad.He turned me down flat.I'll just keep looking and wait till I can find another better deal. THANKS, JEFF

If you are looking for a T-Lock, check out the web site for www.australianarmsauctions.com Their Oct. 2007 auction is loaded with a S&W collection of the late Dr. Colin Dobson, S&WCA member. There are over 20 T-Locks alone, and 600+ other guns. They ship to US if you win the bid. Ed.
