Hello all. I've come across an older revolver, and need help identifying it. Here's what I have;

Appears to be a K frame
5 inch barrel
half moon style front sight
matte/parkerized finish
lanyard loop on butt
number stamped on bottom of grip butt = 782978
number stamped on frame where the cylinder yoke locks up = 13969

The barrel is marked ' 38 S&W Ctg '

On the left side of the frame, directly under the cylider release latch is stamped, ' 38 Special ctg '

Does anyone have an idea when this might have been made? Thanks for any help you might have.

Red, Sounds like you have a British version of the Victory model that was shipped as a .38S&W chambered gun and was later after WW2 converted to shoot .38S&W Special rounds. There should be a a "V" on the butt, unless the gun is a "Pre-Victory" shipped to Britain before the US entered WW2, however that's a pretty low serial number for a Pre-Victory Model 1905, 4th change gun, and would not have a dull finish unless it was refinished in an Allied country's arsenal. If the gun was converted in Britain , it will have a bunch of British proofs marked on the barrel & cylinder. If they are not there , then it is probably a conversion done by an importer in the US or one of the Allied countries. Can you post a picture?
