Guys,
I bumped into a excellent shape M&P revoler. Case hardened hammer and trigger. Blue, 4 inch. Paddle style front sight. Five screws. Yes including the one in front of the trigger. All markings in excellent shape. $326 bucks. I plunked down 40 bucks and it's on layaway.
Now the question. When were they nade? This one looks great. Tight to. Does not look shot much. Any idea what the date range for manufacture and serial number range is (or any website that has this?)
Thanks!!

With 5 screws it was built before 1955. If you can, post the serial number you can leave out the last two digits something like 2735XX and someone can look it up for you. If not here on the 1857 to 1945 forum.

Make sure and include any letter prefixes-"S", "C", etc, if present. The letter may be off to one side.
The easiest number to read is located on the revolver's butt.
bagolden, you ready for the game tomorrow?

Ok. I Got the Smith.
SN is 172XXX. The SN is not only on the butt, but the underside of the barrel and on the back of the cylinder.
Any idea what the date of manufacture was?
Thanks!

Oh, and I did not see any 'C' or 'S' or anything other than the number.

What are the caliber markings? And if there is no letter prefix, its a pre-war gun(the first one)

I take it back. I went out and looked again. There is a 'C' prefix off to one side. Oh, well.
Still any idea when it was made?
Thanks.

Ok. I got my answer! It was on your FQ page.
C1 - C233,999………….....1948 – 52
So it was made around 1950 I guess. Older than I am. The gun as almost no drag marks where the cylinder turns. All stamps are sharp. Blue is perfect. Just a slight amout of rust, no pitting, on the backstrap. I don't think 50 rounds have ever been fired from it. The grips are Smith dimond grips.
It's a keeper!

I would say value about twice what you paid to right person, but an auction price would have been $450-$500 range if as nice as you say.

Well honestly it is going to sleep with my Colt Detective Special. It's an older one, exposed ejector rod, factory nickle, origional stocks, 2 inch tube. I don't have a bunch of collecting guns but the few I have I want to pass down.
