Does anyone know where to find a pair of the early grips for the 1951-52 version of Chiefa Special with the short grip strap. Standard grips are about 1/8" too long.
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to the forum.

The early J frames took stocks the same size as I frames. Try a WTB in the classifieds here or look on fleabay.

What condition is your gun? Depending on condition of the gun, I may have a pair, post or send me some pics and I'll dig around and see what I have.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. I will send some pictures but don't know how on the forum. If you could send me your email address at [email protected], I can send them that way. Sorry to be a bother.

Tom,
Those early Chief grips (same as 'I' frame grips as mentioned above) will be hard to find and high priced when you do. Here's what I did. I had a pair of J frame diamond grips that were a little beat up on the butt end. The locating pin hole to fit the grip frame pin was in the same exact place as the early Chief grips. The checkering pattern was exactly the same size on the J and I grips. So I sanded an 1/8" off the bottom of the J frame grips and touched them up with Tru Oil. They look perfect. Look for the diamond center J grips with a little wear on the bottom and shorten them. They'll be easier to find and cheaper.

Jim

Jim, 'thanks. I wondered if it might be possible but hated to waste a good pair of J frame grips finding out.
I'll give it a try.
Thanks for your help,
Tom
