IT SEEMS THAT MOST OF THE KNOWN 6.5" PRE WAR 38/44 HEAVY DUTIES WERE SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA. THIS ONE WAS SHIPPED JUNE 10, 1936 TO WILLIAM HOEGEE, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. THIS ONE HAS A VERY SMOOTH DOUBLE ACTION AND LIGHT SINGLE ACTION TRIGGER PULL. I JUST LOVE THESE. THE FACTORY LETTER STATES THAT IT WAS SHIPPED WITH SERVICE GRIPS BUT APPEARS THAT IT WORE MAGNAS FOR QUITE AWILE AND ARE LONG GONE. SINCE THE ORDER TO EQUIP HEAVY DUTIES WITH MAGNAS WAS MADE ON 5 FEB 1936, ONE WOULD THINK THIS ONE WOULD HAVE COME THAT WAY. THANKS DAN.
ENJOY,
BILL

I love seeing pictures of those Heavy-Dutys.
I go to your website often.
I have only seen one Heavy-Duty for sale here in Northern California and I bought it.
Thank you for sharing.
Best Regards,
Thomas

Bill,
A neat and interesting gun.
There's something about ALL 6.5" N-frames that just looks...well...more balanced.
Thanks for the post!

Bill,
NEAT ol' gun. I agree with Don about the 6.5" barrel, at least when the hole is big enough to fatten the barrel proportionately.
And hey- I love the website. Kudos!

Thanks to all.
Chris-I had to keep you from going over to the smaller frames and we would have to change your name!
Lee-there you go, wanting a .44 to appear.
Thomas-thanks, the website is there for all of you and this one will wind up there when I can take some better pics of it.
There's nothing like a good old HD to make you smile!
Thanks again,
Bill

That's a real treasure there Bill! I sure wish I could get that one from you to give to my Old-Man, he'd love it.
I don't know if most folks can understand or realize the devotion to the Heavy Duty that you have, I thank you for your work in this department. Maybe one day the S&WCA will have departments; if they ever do, you should be head of the Heavy Duty Dept., you've earned it Sir.
On my next road trip out your way, can I stop by and photograph some of your herd? I'd really enjoy that.
Congrats!
Michael

Very nice photos, I can't wait to see some of the newest addition to your pre-war family! Have you run the serial number by Roy for a preview of the upcoming letter?

Werent there only six of these made
with 6.5" bbls?
If so, I think we can account for
half of them.
I believe it was lee Jarrett sold one on GB
awhile back. He can tell us where it
went.
One sold in Wichita, ks gunshow recently.
and now this one.
If any one knows where the other 6.5s are,
(or a 4") please let me know. Im saving my pennies.

624 Fan,
It left the factory in Dec of 1938. Hopefully I'll the full info in a few weeks. I'm so excited and a thousand thanks on giving me the info on where it was located.
Thanks again,
Bill
Jerry,
I agree that it has a good home in Texas! Pete is a great guy and lover of 38/44s!

That's a nice gun Bill. I don't think it's nice enough to say....throw a titty baby temper tantrum and cast aside a couple of friends over, but a nice gun non the less. Thanks for sharing

I picked this one up in Glendale CA; it was shipped to a store in Los Angeles in either '35 or '36 and was one of a group of 10. Paid $300 for it and sold it recently for $550.

Rajah,
I remember this one. Very unique. Do you still have the letter? If so, I'd like who it was shipped to and the date for my records.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
I just checked out your website for H.D.s
Fantastic! Thanks for all your research and hard work.
I generally stick to early post war j frame guns but I am also interested in the H.D.s and registered magnums.
All you need is money and patience!

hi
here are a couple of links to a picture of my
6 1/2 heavy duty and the factory letter.
it was shipped to a Great falls Hardware store in 1934 as a special order.
i bought the gun from the orginal owner of the hardware store in 1977 he was in his upper 70ths
at that time. i had a display at a gun show in
helena MT. he stopped by and looked at my display and said i have a gun that you need
i will bring it by tomorrow. he came by with
the 6 1/2 inch heavy duty in 98% condition,
and said give me what you think is a fair price
so we made a deal. and i have owned it ever since.
enjoy the photo.
