Hi gents,
I don't frequent this classic section often, but figured this was the place to get some info.
I know there are Colt enthusiests here. I found a Colt Shooting Master in 44 special, guessing 70%, not abuse, but target use. How much $$ loss for the non-original stocks it's currently wearing? Are original grips available for less than a fortune ? Doing a group buy of 5 guns and this is the one to be eventually turned over, and don't want to get too heavy $$ into it where I can't recoup my money. Thanks for the assistance. Sorry, but didn't have my camera with. It is the square butt frame. Lets assume the current grips have no valve= they are nothing special.

To clarify, an older Bluebook lists this revolver at $3000 for 70% condition.
As an example= To CMA on condition variences and the non-original grips, I value it at 2000 in the deal, and then find the grips made it only worth 1500.
I don't want to screw myself unintentionally

What kind of stocks are on it? Did you note the serial number? The caliber makes it interesting but I would need to know more to try to value it. Original stocks are near impossible. Is it square butt or round butt?

Grinder, Try the Colt forum-although I expect you'll get good advice here from the many far more knowledgeable than I.

I need to get a New Service one of these days. A Shooting Master would be even better! Even if the price is on the high side, I'd get it if Iwere you,

You can pick up reproduction stocks from several places. I just bought a set of wood replacements for a Colt 1917 that cost me around $45.00. They don't look exactly right but look better than the rubber that was on it.

Thanks to Kwill, I discovered it is a rebarreled New Service Target. Good to get info BEFORE a deal turns out bad. Thanks

Now that is interesting. Is it simply a rebarreled NST or did someone take an NST, rebarrel it, and call it a Shooting Master?

Essentially the only difference is the gripframe, I believe, with the SM being rounded...

Onomea,
The elderly gent inherited the revolver and was going by the barrel markings. It is a '21 NST by the SN#. It was used in competition back yonder . I was told the large caliber SMs could be had with the square butt. Just a matter of an old gun with no
one alive who knew it's past. It would make a great shooter for someone= tight action and perfect bore
