A good Canadian poker player in France, winter of '18?. Those look like grips from a K-frame victory model. Nice pistol and holster.

I thought they fit poorly as well, but I tried them on my k-22 outdoorsman and they fit at the back strap and the bottom, but are too big at the front. Who knows?

Probably a lot them would say
"Boy it's stuffy in this dresser drawer."
Not so much the 1917's though.

Some of the old wood grips had a tendency to shrink over the years. I think that is the case with your 1917 and the grips are likely original to the gun.

The grips are refinished, and overly sanded.
The holster is NOT a US issue. Looks British, probably for a 455 or a Webley. I suspect it is long enough for a 6-1/2" barrel?
God only knows how it got there now.
Roosevelt sent Britain 25,000 Mod 1917's in the dark days of the Battle of Britain.

Lee is correct. The holster appears to be Canadian or British made, not US issue. . The scratched off name above the 1917 date was the maker's name. Check with some of the Brit martial collector's sites on the net and they can probably give you a good clue on the holster maker. If the grips are original, the right grip panel will have the gun's serial number stamped on the back. 1917s are N frame guns, K frame Victory grips will not fit.

Ed-
Martial 1917's have the number in PENCIL. Moot point now on that pair- probably not legible after the refinish, and doesn't really matter in that state.......
