With all the interest and discussion in the 44 Heavy Duty, even though it is not a pre war gun, since this has been were the bulk of the 44 HD discussion has been, I thought some might get a kick out of my 44 Mag HD .

It is hard to see, but you can just make out the caliber on the barrel.

I'll post this in post war also.

I always figured that if Smith had used the Model "59" model number, for a .44 Magnum M&P version of the Model 29, that they'd have a very big seller. The Model 58 just wasn't the 'right' caliber. MAK

OK, help a brother out, here.

What is that?

Serial would be about 1965. Looks like an HD but did it start out as something else? What's the story?

Yes, they were listed as an option for pre war Heavy Dutys.

Here are the pages from the catalogs as well as the link to a previous discussion thread regarding this very interesting topic.

OOOOOOPs! Someone’s Not Gonna Like This One Bit!

But then again, by his own admission he's not really a 'knowledgeable collector' now is he?

He,he.

Ok Brother

This one started it's life as a 58. Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports, converted it to 44 Magnum. I also had one in .45lc and one in .357 magnum. I think this one wants to go live with his little brother in the Carolinas.
