I was at the gun show last Saturday and spotted a nickel plated 3rd model Hand Ejector in .44spl and it had the 4" barrel. Well I returned Sunday afternoon with the cash and the pistol was still unsold. Since it was getting late the seller was willing to deal so I got it at a good price.
Its been re-nickeled but the finisher did a pretty good job without dishing the screw holes or smearing the lettering; only problem is that the little S&W logo is a little light and the hammer and trigger are also nickeled. It doesn't appear to have been fired after the refinish.
The revolver is in excellent mechanical condition and the bore would rate 99%. The grips appear to be old jigged bone and fit very well. The lettering on the 4 inch barrel is centered so it appears to be factory and the gun has all matching serial numbers. Serial number 345XX appears to have been made in 1930-31 and it may be a Wolf and Klar revolver.
I know its not perfect, being re-nickeled and all, but I like it and its my first 3rd model. I'll send for a factory letter this week.
Hope you enjoy the pics despite my lacking photo skills.
Charlie

Hey Charlie, I like it too! Congrats on landing a tough one to find (or at least tough to acquire). I know there is one in my future...somewhere down the line. Problem is I was spoiled by seeing Mr Jarrett's 3rd Target at Tulsa. You have a nice one there.

Congratulations.
Hard to beat a 4" barreled 3rd Model .44 HE.
Shoot it, enjoy it, and buy more of them before you start worrying about condition too much.

OUTSTANDING find ! Those bone grips are very attractive on that gun as well !
I bet it belonged to a sheriff down near Eagle Pass.
All you need now is a matching holster and a bottle of BBQ sauce !

I paid $600.00 OTD. Maybe thats too much but I didn't feel bad paying it because the man selling it was quite elderly; he said that he was selling off his collection because money was real tight and he needed to buy medicine and food more than he needed guns.

Charlie,
You just can't have too many prewar N-frames, especially HD's and 3rd's!
Nice gun.

I paid more than that last year for one in very similar condition - 4" gun that was renickeled, but without the jigged bone stocks. You did very well.
Seems like I see a lot more of these with a non-factory nickel job than I do in original finish. Must have been very popular to do back in the day.

Jerry,
I would recommend Blackrock leather treatment. It does not make the holster as sticky as Barbecue sauce.
Neat old gun. Wish it could talk.
LOVE the jigged bones.

There were a few that left the factory with the nickel finish.... My four incher from around 1929 is one of 'em.

Steve, those are real pretty grips on that 4 incher. Did it come with them that way or did you add them?

This one, SN 28363, shipped in January 1927 to Wolf & Klar. It was one of 75, all 5" nickel, and part of the first shipment of 3rd models that W&K received.

Hello Muley Gil,
I recently purchased serial# 28XXX, 5" nickel. May have come from the same shippment as yours. Mine has stagg grips that have been on the gun a long time--are the grips on your gun the orginals?
Regards,John

No, these grips are from a later N frame. The correct grips would be non-medallion service style.
I just sent you an e-mail from my Yahoo account.
