Could have bought a S&W 38 S&W Special stamped US Government property Ser# V106xxx all matching serial numbers for $50 today and passed. I would rate it at about 30% due to no bluing or if it was parkerized none left. I would have bought it for throw away had it been 38 Spl due to grade of wear.

The problem with the gun was some idiot used a file to open up forcing to cylinder Clarence. It was not a lanyard equipped pistol and had a rather good condition set of grips that looked period type, didn't take them off to look though.

I still may go back for the gun, but doubt it.

It was marked .38 S&W Special? That is .38 Special, the complete nomenclature.

How wide was the barrel-cylinder gap? Yo say someone enlarged(?) it with a file. A file is the tool used at the factory for adjusting the B-C gap, if not over .012" it is likely as it left the factory. BTW, the word is clearance.

Where might the state of misery be? If it is anywhere near Birmingham AL I'd like to look at a $50 Victory.
