I spotted a round butt M&P with a 4" barrel and original grips, condition is about 90-95% the price tag says $575

What is the going rate for such a specimen?

Would the grips on this round butt be interchangeble with a post war round butt K-frame?

90 - 95% is a fairly wide range, for trying to think about a price. If its
closer to 90% , then I would think $350 is about what it's worth. A real 95%
might be $450 , perhaps a bit higher. The thing about these guns is that
there are a lot of them.

The grip frame is the same size pre- and post-WW2. You have to remember that
pre-WW2, the grips were custom-fit to the frames. So if the frame was a bit
larger, or smaller, in size, the grips would always fit right. A pair of
post-WW2 grips may fit fine, or may not fit right at all.

Mike, thanks, I say its closer to 95% but since grading is so subjective I like to give it a range. I think thats safer than being real accurate like 98.6%

Take a look at the pictures in this thread:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/for...4/m/4221051513

Its very near this thread.

Look closely at the pictures that show the bottom of the frame. It looks to me
as though those post-WW2 grips overhang the bottom.

The frame stands proud on the fore strap of the grip. The wood fits well on the back strap except for the very bottom of the butt where the angle of the gripframe is beveled off and the wood over hangs and at the top of the gripframe where the metal gets full width has some fit issues.

I don't mind the fit so much, acutally the fatter modern grips fit my big mits better.

Sorry, I meant to add I paid 300 + 15 shipping and 15 transfer, though it takes a pretty good value hit with the replacement stocks.
