I'm being offered a Terrier for $250. It is nickel plated (appears to be factory as all the markings are deeply stamped). Finish would rate at 99%. It has the four screw side plate, serial number is in the 77,000 range, and the flat cyclinder latch. The front sight has the ramp.

Is this a reasonable price?

Just my opinion, but I think any S&W that old and in 99% shape (if original finish) would be worth $250.

I'm probably a sucker, but I have a craving for a nickel Smith of some kind, and I would grab that puppy in an instant. It would go nicely with the blue Terrier I picked up for considerably more than that.

Yes! Most original finish Terriers (in blue) that I've seen for sale lately are priced at around the $400 mark. If it's original nickel, then it's somewhat scarce. I have two blue ones (luckily they didn't cost me that much). One is a true 5 screw with flat mainspring, and the other is a 'transition' 5 screw with coil mainspring but half moon front sight. They are both great shooters and I even carry them occasionally. They are quite a bit smaller than a modern Chief Special 36.
