Hey folks, I'm trying to ID a 22lr revolver, but it's whooping my butt. The SN is 8707xx. It looks to be drilled for a lanyard loop. The barrel is I think 6" with a tall patridge front site and adjustable rear. 5 Screw with British proof marks. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it might be one of the Victory Models that was converted to .22. Can't remember what firm did it, but it was a British company.

I believe Parker-Hale did some and the name Cogswell comes to mind also.

Anyone know if there's any value to them as converted? Also, don't the Victories have a V prefix on the S/N?

I've seen them for sale before from $250-300. Don't know what they are "worth" though.

But I don't know of any of the 'conversions' of the Victory Models that were done with Adjustable Sights. And, the 6 inch barrel also doesn't fit the "normal" profile of a Victory since this 'conversion' was done in a couple of ways but I think the most common was to reline the barrel and sleeve the cylinder.

Sounds more like a K-22 that someone has tried to add a sling swivel to. Again, Pictures would help.

KKG, I will try to get some pictures. The adjustable site on the back has a large wheel just in front of the site notch for adjusting the elevation. Looking at the top, I would say the site was added to the gun, as it appears that there is a bit of the fixed site grove coming out in front of the site. The barrel and cylinder don't look like they have been sleeved, and the serial number doesn't match up to the range for the K22s. In fact, I can't figure out what that serial number could match up to.

It is beginning to sound more and more like "something" that somebody simply decided to put together. Kind of a Project gun during some High School Shop Class. Ya, there was a 'time' when kids could not only bring guns to school but were also allowed to work on them as 'projects'. I once refinished a rifle stock in a Wood Shop Class while I was in Junior High School but of course, those days are gone forever.

I've seen Parker-Hale conversions with similar sights.

Bill; Other than the War time V & SV serial numbers, which were all "K" Frame in size. The only way that could happen is if it were one of the much later Alpha/Numeric serial numbers. For many years S&W simply started at 1 and went on from there for each and every different Model and/or frame size.
