I didn't pay that much attention. I had recieved an invoice. Now I see where they have the assembliers mark, that's inside on the frame listed as the serial number that's on the butt and three other places. The number that is on the FFL log is the assembly # and it's about 27,000 numbers before the actual number. I know S&W made a 1917 w/that #. I don't know where it is or what has become of it yet I see how problems could arise.
]I ask for your combined wisdom on what move I should make...

Draw a line through the assembly number so that it is still legible, and enter the serial number.

If you keep a Logbook, enter it by the TRUE serial number.
Inform the shipping dealer of the error, giving him the true number, and let him do what he wants. Don't argue with him.
Nothing to wiorry about. You have done nothing wrong. He made a mistake, and, if you try in good faith to help him correct it, you are done.

Do that. Write the serial number below. Maybe put a note on the invoice about the discrepancy, and file it.

Thanks, I contacted the seller and he's going to send me a corrected invoice/bill of sale w/factual serial #. Once it comes in I'll go to my FFL transfer guy so he'll know everything is on the up n up.
