I found this one on a table on the lower level on Sunday at the Tulsa show. I do not think it was tghere earlier. It is sn 32568 and was shipped in November 1928. I also have 32561 and it was a November 28 shipment to W&K, so I'll bet this one was part of that same shipment. The grips are probably too late for the gun, but look as if they have been on it forever.

You are aware that we think YOU SUCK, aren't you??
Seriously, a big congrats on that score, probably one of the best S&W "finds" of the show.

John and Dave

Here is the full story on finding the gun. Around 10 AM, my friend and I were going through the bottom level and were near the area of the snack bar on the front of the lower area. He decided to head to the men's room and I followed along, lo and behold, on one of the single tables off to the side near the men's room, I spotted the gun laying on the table. He had shotguns on the table and this was the only handgun (always a good sign) It had a $495 price tag on it, I asked if he'd take $400. He asked if I had an FFL. I said yes and the deal was done. I was pretty happy with the deal. As you guys know, 6 1/2" Third Models are not real common.

Gary,
Congratulations on a great score. It sounds like that table was very near where Ken and I had set up. You've got a great eye. Thanks for sharing.

Larry

That table was just about at the end of the row where you and Ken were set up. I picked it up after I left Ken's table, and after calling you on your cell.

Gary, as I said, great score! Just shows you have to keep walkin' in that show to find the good stuff.
I also have a 6.5" blued 3rd Model .44 HE in the 41xxx range, I'm aware they aren't common.

Gary,

Very nice find. Although the grips are beautiful, you're probably right that they are a little late. I have a 6.5" M1926, sn 29333 with the correct numbered convex non-medallion grips and it shipped to W&K on April 20, 1927. You're also correct that the 6.5" M'26's are scarce. I was really proud to have found one, but to find one at the price that you did is almost obscene. (I could tell you how much I paid for mine but I won't. It would only add to your glee and keep me awake tonight ).

Good to see you at Tulsa.

Bob

Good to see you too at Tulsa Bob. Aside from finding the 1926, seeing you again was the next best thing I have a 1926 that is 7 numbers off from this one and it has the convex style grips that are numbered to the gun. I'll have to search out a pair of grips, but for the meanwhile, I'll leave these on the gun.

Yep, that was a steal. I bet David Carroll paid less for his old smokepole than you did!

Better still, as I remember his gun, its even got the HBH! Some time we need to ask him what he paid, just for fun. I bet it'll be upsetting to a lot of people.
