Was the front sight on the target Triple Lock pinned or machined?
Does anyone have a picture of the front sight on a target Triple Lock?

I'm not sure what the underlying question is. A "target" revolver
is somewhat of a misnomer. Any revolver can be used to target shooting,
and is therefore a target revolver.
Generally we are referring to adjustable rear sights, and usually
that is also taken to mean a pinned-blade front sight.
Smith & Wesson did make, on special order, revolvers with adjustable
rear sights, and forged non-pinned front sights. This was known as
a semi-target. The factory also made, on special order, the opposite
configuration : a pinned-blade front sight with a forged fixed
M&P-style rear sight. This is also known as a semi-target. One is
for sale right now in the up-coming Rock Island Auction.
The factory also made a gun that they called a Police Target. It
looks like an M&P, with fixed rear sights and a forged front sight,
but the front side has been ground flat, to resemble something like
a Patridge blade.
The factory also made something called a New York Police Target.
Robert Vivas has talked about this - I'm not clear exactly what
it looks like.
So - getting back to the original question - what is the underlying
reason for asking ?!
Later, Mike Priwer

The last poster asked me to justify my request for such information. I came from reading the Supica and Nahas book on Smith and Wessons, and from looking at one a friend recnetly purchased. I could not find a clear picture of a sight blade on one that might be called a Target Triple Lock in the book. I wanted to confirm the book's statement that the blade was pinned. It is on the one I looked at. I also wanted to see what the shape of the blade was. The pistol I'm referring to has not been letters, but does have the rear sight and it is serial numbered to the pistol.

epidoc, Mike's info was probably more than you were looking for, however it covers the topic completely. I have owned, and still have most of the target configurations Mike describes and they were technically all Target Models, however the genesis of your question I think can be answered "Yes" - most all full target T-Locks have a pinned front sight, if the gun is still in original factory format. Ed.

I like Mike's info.
I worked for many years as an application engineer, and my technique for answering questions is similar, at least for subjects on which my knowledge is as encyclopedic as Mikes is on Smiths. I refer to it as the shotgun blast technique. Those on the receiving end have referred to it as drinking from a fire hose.
I consider it one of the big benefits of being on the forum. Now if I could just remember it all......
