Here is the left side of the 44 engraved by RJS and shipped on December 10, 1956. Russ lightly inscribed his name on the grip frame.

Beautiful revolver. I have seen photos of Russ Smith's work in Supica's catalog too. He does outstanding work.

Very nice, I like it!
I'm currently working with Wayne D'Angelo to creat a family heirloom of a Colt 1903 Hammerless.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Bill! I never get tired of looking at pictures of your guns. This one is outstanding.
Mickey, I'll look forward to pictures when your Colt is done.

Splendid gun, Bill.
How did Russ get away with the signature? I thought S&W frowned on that....

Bill:
Great example of early Russ Smith engraving. WOW - how his style and talent grew over the years. A pictorial of guns through his career would make a great journal article.

Thats yet another beautiful gun Bill. I'll always open your posts to see another outstanding gun. Your ability to photograph them almost enhances the gun. Larry

Lee...I have two, and have owned several more guns that Russ Smith either put his initials or his name on. It was against S&W policy, but he did it nonetheless. I also owned a 44 engraved by Viriginia LeBlanc in 1957 and she stamped vlb on the grip frame.

Russ is my wife's grandfather, so I have some inside info. They did frown on signing but he liked to sneak it in where it wouldn't be noticed. He's mentioned sometimes using his initials at the muzzle or a tiny eagle head under the cylinder latch.

Bill,
Absolutely beautiful, just as all of your guns are.
This gun was also done by Russ Smith and he signed it is very small letters on the grip frame "RUSS" (less the quotation marks). He also signed an affidavit that he engraved the gun. As I understand it, the affidavit was done by Russ for Gary Garbrecht back when Gary owned the gun. I know Russ & Gary became pretty good friends and may have played golf together too.
gwg1, thanks for posting here on the Forum, and please thank Russ for all the nice work he did on our guns.
