Belly Guns
I am a long time lurker and a fan of this forum....
Here is a piece I have had for a while. Purchased from an old school local Parish Sheriff (I'm from Louisiana). Guy was not a very nice guy and always was in a foul mood. He was is in his late 80's and still kicking butt; he has hands like a giant ape!
Gun dates to 1966. Its actually not in too bad of shape. I'd like a Smith to work it over a little "cleaner" and put a new finish on her.
pic (gotta cut and paste...sorry):

Looks OK to me! I'd just have it cleaned and oiled and call it good. Looks like a Smith Fitz to me!

Belly Guns ...a S&W Fitz
thought I would bring this thread back up with an update:
had the pistol gone over and tweaked by a known Gunsmith.
I put the Patrick Grashorn grips on her and had aged them in tea overnight to give them an old look. The shotgun bead sight is interesting and suprisingly works well. The action is double-action-only and is smooth as butter. The holster is an original Buchiemer.
pics (cut and paste accordingly):

Funny thing is that this gun has become one of my favorites and garners much attention when I bring it to my tables at local gunshows. I could have sold it many times over and gotten my money back out of it with ease.
Cheers.

This thread just popped up on my radar again so I'll add a couple more -
327NG 8 shot .357mag - hammer bobbed, slick DAO action, charge holes chamfered, lock disabled - everything you need, nothing you don't!
My bobbed, DAO 9mm 360J -

There are few things as personal as a pocket knife or a pocket gun. And there is nothing evil about either!

Hi
Well I don't know if it qualifies as a belly gun but it is my carry gun.
Started life as a 1902 32/20 1st change with a bad barrel, after some
misc extra parts it is now a 38 special 1902 2 inch.
It shoots very well and with a cyl. from a 1905 1938 gun it can take
regular 38 special loads.

Here is one from the dark recesses of the safe..........
..............that I have had for sometime. Have been trying to figure out what to have done to it to bring it back into service.
Someone long ago modified it to fit his needs.

A current favorite:
1917 Colt, currently at the smith having some mesquite stocks made for it.
Very smooth double action, somepne knew what they were doing when they worked on this.

So much potential there! I think I'd have it blued and go with the classic service stocks and a tyler-t.
What caliber is it?

m1917 someone long ago Hack Sawed the Barrel down a ways on. No front Sight.
Has Hack Saw Teeth marks on the end.
Was just as this when I got it.
It had some mechanical troubles which I was able to repair, and, it functions very nicely now.
I love these old things...

It was James Garfield that really took the cake on suffering at the hand of doctors. It is even said Garfield had a better chance of recovering had the doctors never touched him.
They couldn't find the bullet in McKinley and they didn't try a new x-ray device. They closed the wound and he seemed to rally but went downhill and died after about a week and a half.
Garfield suffered terribly from July 2nd to September 19th. 80 days.

Wow, this thread started before I even joined the forum!
But, since it's been resurrected, I'll play. This is one of my favorites. I've posted photos of it in its before state, but since it was originally a .455 and re-chambered to .45 Colt, I decided to make it a project. The front bead is just the right height to set on top of the frame, not in the sight groove, and for the distance it's meant for, that works for me. And, it's one of the best point shooters I've ever had.

Old thread, but I couldn't resist.
Here's a fancy picture of a cheap gun, my chopped Heritage Rough Rider, 2-7/8", most of the time carrying the .22 Mag cylinder.

Well - I didn't have anything to add the last time this thread was around, but picked of a few since then. A 32 Bicycle Gun, and a couple of 38 S&W cut barrels I could not resist.

Here is my 1899 .38 2 1/2" M&P. I don't normally think of this as a "belly gun",
but it does fit that category insofar as the barrel length is concerned. The black bottle
of oil is tilting the gun just a bit, to provide better lighting for the pictures.

That 2 1/2" barrel is actually set up as a target barrel. It has a forged front sight base,
and the half-moon blade is pinned in, and the ends of the pin are polished flush with
the sight base. The barrel also has a full-length flat ( 1 1/16") on the underside.
I made the ejector rod short; otherwise it comes almost to the muzzle. In doing so,
because of the straight taper of the barrel, there is a big gap at the end of the barrel,
between the bottom of the barrel and the top of the ejector rod. I think the gun looks
better with this shorter rod.

.38 S&W Topbreak "Perfected" belly gun
Serial # is 4 digit. Cut off bbl. Factory letter, shows nickel with standard grips. Originally a 4 inch bbl. It shoots great!!! Better than my Model 37..

I'm really HAPPY that this thread was reopened, so I can show off my New prewar, cut down HD. Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but it has the smoothest trigger pull I've experienced in years.
Thanks Alex.
