This 44 Magnum is one of the first with an 8 3/8-inch barrel and was shipped "in the white" to Rex Firearms in December 1958. It was subsequently engraved and inlaid with gold and silver by Alvin White in January 1959. After engraving, the revolver was finished in blue at Smith & Wesson.

The stocks are also a product of Mr. White who was also a master when working with wood and ivory.

Thanks to a fellow forum member I was able to add it (the fourth AAW-engraved 44 Magnum) to my collection.

Bill

I just finished with some emails and "had" to check the forum also, what a nice surprise to find one of your posts. What a beautiful revolver, Mr. White's engraving is at the top of my list of favorites. Well engraved firearms are the ultimate art,at least in my mind. I can understand the grip work (at least I think I can) but to take hammer and chisel to steel and create something like that is just about beyond belief. Great pictures, as always. Thanks for showing.

Keith

Extraordinary, to say the least. The close up photo indicates it is one of those rare works that appear more fantastic the closer one looks.

Incredible. It's a dream to own one like that one day.

I'd imagine it would cost about half of what my current collection is worth to purchase it.

That one will take the place of Charlize Theron as my home screen on my computer for a while .

Very nice. One question- is that rust on the hammer and trigger? Maybe just color case hardening that looks rusty?

Bill,

That is one beautiful piece of gun art. The lynx looks to be particularly well executed. A friend of mine recently inherited his fathers firearms collection. He was known to collect Smiths and was very wealthy. I expect to see some nice handguns, but nothing like your acquisition.

Thanks for the view.

Lafayne

Lafayne,

Sure hope you'll find an opportunity to hose dowm your friend's new collection with a digital camera so that the rest of us may (in a small way) share in his acquisition and the mixed emotions it must call up in him.

Hi Bill:

Great job photographing Mr. White. I think that is the best engraved 29 I have seen! I look forward to that display of the four engraved masterpieces!
