I picked these up at a show sometime ago. I didn't steal them as the seller knew what he had.
Not having a 1910 to 1920 N frame I've decided to put them up for sale to a forum member.

Don't want to ask too much but don't want to cheat myself either as money is relatively tight right now.

Fair value?? thanks for your help ,,,Al

Allen-frame,
They're not Magnas, I believe they're just called hand ejector stocks. I can't help you with a value, but consider fleabay. chad

Al:
They are service stocks. With the medallions bent and a hole drilled in one of the panels, I would think twenty bucks or so for someone with a like era gun in the same shape. My ignorant opinion.

I think $20 might be a bit low- better pics would help. Is that a hole, or just a deep little ding?

I agree with Lee (it's hard not to most of the time) on $20 being a bit low. I would say in the $40 to $50 range. These may be a nice set of stocks to have someone like Keith Brown, freshen up by doing some re-checkering etc.

VL

Problem is that getting these stocks restored is $80 to $100, maybe more.
Keith does wonderful work, but they are not the same as original. By
definition, the level of the high-points of the checkering is a lot lower -
just because some wood has been worn away. They will always be redone grips.
Nothing wrong with that, but a lot of money goes into that. And , there
is damage to the medallions.

If someone wants a good-condition pair of these grips, they are available
from time to time.

Keith dosen't do restorations anymore.

My take on these is that they could be restored and the medallions saved. Would it be worth it? Not unless they are numbered to the gun. Wood is a wonderful medium to work because you can make it look like anything you want it to. There are a lot of tricks to make wood look period correct yet not like it has been refinished.

Allen-frame,

I agree with the notes above, and I'd be interested in those. I have some K's from this vintage I could do in trade, or other stocks, or settle on a value with you. I have a .455 HE that could use those until I get some nicer ones.

The medallions can be fixed with a piece of dowel rod pushed and rubbed from the inside, go slow and don't try to do it all with one big push. Mike is correct in that no matter what you do or how well it's not original. And like Mike said, you do lower the checkering when recutting in addition to it already being worn away and lower than original to begin with. If you would like to make them look nicer but only spend a few dollars and some time then soak them in acetone for several days, get rid of the dents using above method and then swab on a heavy coat of Tru-oil, let set for several minutes and then blot off all that you can. Then using a stiff clean dry brush go over them from all angles until all shine is gone, let them dry for a couple of days and your done. The best part about doing it this way is no harm is done. DW,I do still rework old grips but did stop taking in new work for awhile to get caught up. Hope this helps.

Keith

Kamerer, you are a stinker! But if you can't work out a deal, I'm interested too.

Allenframe, If you do what Keith says, plus neatly fill up that hole in the right panel with walnut wood putty, they will turn out being 100% more presentable, and could well bring $100+ on eBay. IMHO.
