HI:

I friend of mine (a very old person) found a very Nice (85%-90%) M&P Target Revolver.

The serial number of this particular gun is S 8327XX

Can Any one provide me with the DOB???
Also is this Revolver what is Known as the MEXICAN TARGET (THE FRONT SIGHT IS REALLY TALL WITH A GOLD DOT ON IT)

That serial number would put it shortly after the end of WWII, possibly the summer or fall of 1945.

Those Colt pistols are terrific finds. Much as this forum concentrates on S&Ws, those are probably much more valuable. If you need a source of information for them, try Sam Lisker at

That number is a bit higher than the published range, but it does sound like a Mexican Model. Do you have any pics? The other possibility is a gunsmith conversion of a 38 M&P.
A Mexican Model is a very desirable gun. If you decide to sell any or all of them, I would love an opportunity to buy them. My email is in my profile and on my website.

Lee, What's a Mexican Model and what distinguishes it? Just curious - never heard of it.

That is in the right serial number range . Mine is S8328xx. These guns
were shipped to Mexico, and so became known as the Mexican Model. I don't
think the front sight blades were gold-dot blades, but I'm away from the
gun right now. The guns were shipped in mid-1947. Interestingly, Rex
Applegate was involved with the sale of the Mexican model guns.

Its possible that this gun is correct - its also possible that its been
worked on, and is not a Mexican model.

I'm confused about a couple of things here. First, is there some significance
to your friend being a very old person ? Do only older collectors have
Mexican models ?

And second - what is the relevance of this to Colts ?

Regards, Mike Priwer
