Default I need help Identifying a S&W

Good Evening! I have the opportunity to purchase a 38 S & W special.

It says on one side of the barrel, 38 S. & W. Special CTG, and the other side it says Smith & Wesson. When you open the chamber, it looks like it says in there Mod. 36 and has a series of 5 digits. They are 74835. On the butt of the handle is has the following number 508xxx. It has a 3" barrel. Is anyone able to give me any information on age, value, etc........Thanks!

Welcome! Muley Gil has the ID correct. It likely shipped in about 1966. Its value is based on its finish and mechanical condition, so a detailed description or photos would help with this.

Here is a post regarding IDing S & W revolvers that always helps us:

That looks like a pretty rusty gun that has been somewhat crudely refinished. I would pass. You can get a decent 36 for not too much money so why bother with a refinished beter.
