Went to a gun shop today where they take in Police trade in.
Found this one in a box of many. It was the only flat latch. It had no grips. I was able to pick (my choice) grips off another S&W.
The S&W model 38 Airweight was a mess, full of grung & gunk.
It was a trade in from Roscommon County (MI) Sheriff Dept.
The S&W 38 cleaned up nicely, all parts match except the grips.
It dates to 1956.

Looks like you got more than rewarded for your efforts. Nice piece.
I have the stainless 638(?) that I have had for many years. I also have a 642 (my current carry gun). I use a Mika pocket holster and hardly know that it is there (that would also work well for you if you like pocket carry like I do).
Have fun!

Thanks for the replys.
I also picked up a nice Colt Detective Special that came from the same Dept.
The Colt was another beater found in the same box. It dates from 1967. It cleaned up well.
I'll post same pictures later.

Not the best picture of the Colt Detective Special, but here it is.
These revolvers were all piled in a box as if they were junk. Maybe someone thought they were junk(?)
I saw a couple of revolvers that could be saved. Minus a few scratches, they are perfect.
I feel like rescue mission for beaten, and abused revolvers!

Nice.
It's as old as ME.
I feel like it looks...
Obviously, we both need a refinishing!

It just goes to show you.
Age means nothing.
You may have a few dings, and scratches, but a little cleaning, and Polishing, you're as good as new (if not better)!

Awesome find Whitecoyote, keep going back to that shop and looking through the junk boxes. One man's junk is another man's revolver.

Very nice guns! A couple of my favorites, by the way. You did a nice job cleaning them up.
