Thats really a nice gun. Looks brand new. Did you ever shoot it, How accurate is it? I have an outdoorsman in .22. The sights seem too hard to pick for my eyes. Larry

Its interesting that Roy mentioned the optional front sight blades.
The blade he is referring is a thin blade with a bead across the top of
it. The rear face of the blade could have an ivory, or a brass (gold) bead.

One of the blade available was the Lyman blade. Sometimes they had an ivory, or
gold bead on the rear face of the top bead.

The blade on this revolver is one that was used for years. There is a name
for it - it has no bead on its top edge.

Actually, it does have a gold or brass bead on the front sight, it just doesn't show up on the photos. I'll try to take a close-up of it later and add the photo.

Thanks for the close-up. That is not a factory sight blade, but rather
someone has mounted that one in place of what it was shipped with. That blade
is much too thick, and the factory never had a bead like that.

It would have helped to send that close-up photo to Roy, along with your
request for a letter.

You can still do that. Print the picture, enclose a copy of the letter,
and write a note to Roy, asking about that sight.

Thank you Mike - I will definitely write Roy with a copy of the picture of the sight. When I wrote for a factory letter I mentioned that I thought it had a "McGivern gold-bead" front sight, which was obviously incorrect. That's probably why Roy mentioned that a McGivern or Call Gold Bead sight was not available at the time.

Thank you for the photo - also a very nice revolver! It looks like yours has the same "gold bead" front sight as mine, which Mike Priwer thinks is not original. What is the base lenght of your front sight?

Hey Peter,
Mine doesn't have a gold bead on the sight, what you see is just the way the light is hitting it. The base is 11/16" long and the blade is 1/16" thick. Hope this helps. Later John

You should be able to find a front blade from someone here if the responce from Roy doesn't turn out right for you. While waiting for the Letter, I would hunt down a stock sight for it.

This is a picture of two of the common sight blades :



The one on the left is a Paine bead front sight blade. Its a very thin blade,
and has bead running across the top of the blade. Often the end of the bead is
fitted with either Ivory or Brass (gold).

The one on the right is the more common blade. Its is uniformly thin, and
has no bead whatsoever. I think this is the one on your gun, John . There is
a name for this blade, but I forget what it is !

I just picked one up today, a little newer #4664**, and a little less condition wise and service sights instead of targets. Does have square butt though. I'll post a pic once I get it taken on a new thread.

Pace, I just picked one up today. I`m just curious, my gun has a small S&W emblem on the left side under the cylinder release. I noticed that the guns pictured have the larger emblem on the right side. Mine is serial number 445070, which is closer to your period. Its a target model. Good thing I dont take pics for a living or Id starve. Anyone else have one like this ? Thanks

Actually the gun came with a set of non-medallion stocks that have a chip in them. I am repairing them. Good eye.

Here is a PIC of one like yours with serial number 572702 on it. It has a King sight on it, just been hoping that it letters, slim to none chance. Later John

Mine also has the smaller logo on the left side but with fixed sights and square butt as said above. Pic is posted on this board in "Kind of old and older weekend" Didn't photo left side yet though.

Nice revolver. It was surely one of the last ones that left the factory before they went over to model 1917 45 ACP production.
