Sounds like a fine price for a Victory Model as described. I will look forward to pictures. One of several experts on these guns will have an answer for you about the ship date before long. Congratulations!

Based on information found in the database maintained by my friend and collaborator, Charlie ("ordnanceguy" on the forum), and me, the five-digit SN V-34,8xx should have shipped in mid-1942, most probably July of that year.

You don't stipulate the condition of the gun, but the price paid sounds real good to me.

In order for us to include your gun in the database, we need the full SN and details on any martial markings, if any. If you would like to contribute, you may post the info here or e-mail me off-list at [email protected] (removing the "NOSPAM," of course).

On this Victory the finish is a grey black, there is some slight wear on the barrel end and on the front of the frame. there are no proofs on the outside of the revolver except the U.S.NAVY on the top strap. The trigger and hammer are case hardened. The ejector rod is blued, the grips are smooth walnut but do not fit well. The bore and cylinder charge holes are bright and shiney. There is a V strike under the left grip on the back strap and some unreadable strikes on the left side grip frame by the grip pin. I hope this is enough information for the database. The full Sn V34870. I have two more questions, were there different grip panels used during this time of production and does this revolver have the upgraded hammer block,(no S on frame)? Thanks again SKGLTP

All grip panels for Victory models are the same. If yours are original to the gun, the serial number will be stamped on the back side of the right grip panel. If it's not here, or a different number, then they are replacement. I have seen Victories with Model 1917 grips on them, as someone replaced the original grips with the wrong Model 1917 type. The laugh is that the 1917 grips are worth 3 figures for a good pair. Maybe you lucked out if your grips don't fit right and you have a pair of 1917 grips. Your gun does not have the "safety hammerblock" conversion if it does not have the "S" stamp on the frame. That's not to say the gun is unsafe, as the old style safety hammer block is perfectly good if you keep the gun clean so it can work correctly.
