A friend has a .38 Regulation Police. It's a 4 screw, 5 shot with the 6/5/1917 stocks. The serial number on the frontstrap is 3384x.

Any help on its age will be greatly appreciated!

Roy Jinks' HISTORY OF SMITH & WESSON" says that production of the .38 Reg Police began in 1917 with serial number 1. Production ended for the war in 1940 at 54,474. The round butt, 2 inch versioin, the Terrier, began in 1936, was numbered in the same series, at serial number 38,976.

I would guess about 1935 or so.

BUFF - thanks for the 1935 estimate. Based on my search of the 1857-1945 forum, I placed it in the first half of the 30s.

I have one that is 6000 #'s lower, and dates to 12/1925. I think your estimate is pretty accurate.
