1905 target info needed
Hi all, just picked up this one today and need some opinions. Approx date of birth and such. Appears to be a Hand Ejector Model of 1905 4th, target. Serial number 556123, cal. .38 S&W special, no box, six inch barrel, adjustable sights with dome top checkered diamond grips no medallion. Timeing and lock up are good, light turn line with a nice bright bore. Grips are in very good condition and have penciled on matching number on right grip panel. All numbers on barrel, cylinder, ejector and frame match. Blueing very good with a hint of wear at muzzel edge's. Blueing appears to be slightly motteled on frame sides. All screws includeing the tiny little one's for the sight appear never to have seen a screw driver, excepting the grip screw. Side plate appears to have never been off as well. All markings and edges are sharp. Hammer and trigger retain good case color and ejector remains unblued so I think this is not refinished. Trigger is serrated and hammer checkered. This is my first pre war target model so this is all new to me! Wasent sure what I was looking at but paid $400.00 plus tax and title. Am going to try to post pictures for the first time and camera does not take good close up's! Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like a pretty good deal to me!
I have one, serial# 636389, which shipped in 1931. I paid much more and yours is in better shape than mine.
The convex grips with no medallions indicate yours probably came from the 1920's.

While I could never hate anyone, I'm very jealous! Seeing some of y'alls beautiful old guns, and beautiful new ones, along with the pictures of some very respectable collections, makes me realize I need to get out more! Like to pawn shops, lgs, gun shows, etc!
VERY nice buy Bob!

Nice Gun!! I have s/n 5727xx, I e-mailed Roy Jinks and he told me mine left the factory in Oct. 1927. Great Find!! I think these older Smiths Actions can't be beat. I believe they rival any Python.

You Did Well
Beautiful old Smith. The clean lines and careful attention to the craftsmanship of these revolvers (e.g. how the grips fit seamlessly with the backstrap...) make them a beauty to behold and own.
Congrats!
