Default Pre model 10 snubnose nickel info

I recently purchased this Pre Model 10 from a gun show. It is a nickel finish, with a gold hammer and trigger. I would like to know if this is possibly from the factory or aftermarket. I would also like to know if anyone can tell me the approx. year it was made. The serial number is C314XXX. I saw on a thread regarding police officer's guns that this is almost exactly like several that were posted. Can anyone help me with this?

Your .38 M&P dates to the mid-1950's (54-56). It's possible that the nickel is factory, but the gold plating is not. Better photos (including the left side of the gripframe with the stocks removed and the back of the cylinder) would help. How does it shoot?

Default thanks for the help

I paid $325 for the gun, does that sound like a good deal? Thanks for the help.

Default history

I am a police officer and another officer that I work with told me that there is a place that I can send the information about my gun and they will provide me with the history of the gun (past owners, etc). Does anyone know you I would have to contact? I would like to get a collection of old police officer's guns.

The only kind of history that I know of that is available is the
factory S&W letter from Roy Jinks. This will tell you the date that
the gun was shipped and where it was shipped to along with
other interesting information such as the finish, barrel length
and any special featured it might have left the factory with.

You can use this order form to obtain the letter:
