Non relieved K diamond targets? A Diamond target grip picture thread.
Have you seen these before? G.B. seller has them listed as K diamond target grips ,mint ,no serial # inside grips.
Post your pictures of your Diamond targets ,,non relieved or otherwise.
I've only seen the football relief style that came on the Combat Magnum, starting in 1956.
Guess you learn something new every day.
I won the auction and should have them by weeks end.
Unless you've made other plans ,, have a great day!

Yes, I've seen them before (not that specific pair, but K frame NRT's). I believe the early Combat Magnums had non-relieved targets, maybe up to 1957ish. It seems Cokes were the first targets to have the extractor relief cut and the others followed later. As you know, targets were rarely numbered. The look like about $200 to me and they appear flat out new. Very nice!

Thanks guys,
Thanks ,, I was curious about the timeframe these were mfd. Say ,1954 to 1956?
Chad, the auction went to $137. I got lucky. I have a 1957 vintage 4 screw non model marked K-22 they will be going onto.
I always felt the n.r. K targets went best on the K-22 because the spent casings don't hit the gtips when ejecting the empties.
I'll post pictures on this thread of them on the gun once I receive them.
Regards ! Allen Frame

Yes - those are the first target K-frame stocks offered. They came out
in about 1951-ish. It wasn't long after that, that the factory realized
they had a problem with .38 caliber extraction hitting the grip, so they
made the extractor cut.
They are years too early for your 1957 gun - it should have the grips
with the extractor cut.

Sir, I have a set like that on a 1955-ish K-22. Besides the lack of a relief cut, they're also trimmer and "rounder" than '70s and '80s K targets, so they feel better in the hand.
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

The first N frame Targets also looked like this. They do interfere with loading.

Allen,
I have this set that I used to keep on my 17.-
The checkering on these is extremely nice. All the points are sharp, and they feel great in my hand.

I have a pair of the N Frame on a Pre-27 which dates to 1953. None of the targets are numbered.

Allen,
Nice find a a great price.
Be aware that with the muzzle up empty cases and particularly loaded rounds WILL hit the stock when ejected. Not much of a ding, but they add up if you're not careful.
Good shooting.

Allen: They will look great on your gun but you do know that they are not CORRECT for a four screw gun, right? The earliest Targets in both "N" and "K" frames were non relieved.
I personally have never seen non relieved targets on a Combat Magnum. I have two Combat Magnums, one of which is only 1000 above the starting serial number for the model and it shipped with Rosewood, Diamond Targets WITH a ejector/football relief cut. Of course that's a 4 screw gun.
The cased Combat Magnums that Doc44 posted also have relief cuts. I know that the cased ones were very early in the models life.
Yes, they made smooth ones, though the post would appear to show relieved ones.

A picture thread?
This seems to have turned into a target stock picture thread.
Isn't it funny how threads take on a life of their own?
These are the grips currently on the 4 screw K-22. As JCELECT posted
smooth non relieved K presentation targets. I call them smooth baby cokes, because of the pronounced palm swell.

Next up would be my 1955 target, with its very own pair of N diamond non relieved targets.
Bought off Gun broker 2 years ago for $1000. I.m hoping this is a birth year gun 1956, but have not lettered it yet.

Last but not the least of the bunch is a 4 screw Highway Patrolman.
The original owner sold this gun to Wain Roberts firearms here in Florida.
It has had these stocks on it since it was new.
By the fit, it sure looks to me like they were fitted at the factory.
The auction ran up to the outrageous price of $800. because the guy bidding against me thought these were cokes. And the seller even posted in the listing ," Yes these are cokes" By auction end the damage was done and I paid $900. shipped.
But ,all said I did end up with a non model marked 4 screw H.P. and a near perfect pair of n.r. diamond targets.
I wonder what this would sell for today?
Here are the pics ,you be the judge.
Fit from the factory ???
Regards ,,,AlleN-Frame

Here is a picture(I hope) of my Combat Masterpiece with the original non-relieved target stocks. My father bought this pistol new in 1959. I also have a 1955 Target that has non-relieved target stocks that are numbered to the pistol. Ken

This pistol also has non-relieved target stocks. These stocks have the serial # stamped inside the stock. But didn't' all 1955 Targets have their stocks serial numbered to the pistol? Ken

Ken - thanks for the pictures - VERY Nice. I'd love to know the answer to your question. Is your serial number anywhere close to the N targets I posted above in this thread? { S 161022 }
