Victory Markings
Hello everyone!
I need some help. I am trying to obtain some information on markings on my Victory model. I was told the gun has been modified. It has a two inch barrel and suppose to be a 5inch. On the barrel there are some markings that I have no idea what they mean. I was hoping for some expert assistance. I have attached a couple of photo's.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Kevin:
Yes, your Victory Model has been substantially modified. Without the serial number I can't say whether the original barrel was 5" or not, but it most likely was. Perhaps you could tell us what the complete serial number is.
The markings you refer to are post-war British commercial proof marks. When the revolver was sold after the war it was modified in the UK. Before sale on the civilian market it was required to be proof tested again and those markings indicate that it passed proof.
HTH.

Victory model markings
The BNP and crown means British Nitro Proof. The .38 .787" identifies the cartridge case length and caliber (.38 S&W), and the 7 1/2 means proof pressure in British Long Tons. Those are indeed Commercial British proof marks added to the revolver before post WWII commercial sales.

Thanks for the complete number. With that additional information I can tell you that it is highly likely that the barrel was originally 5" in length.

If I'm seeing this right, the first pic shows a SN on the underside of the barrel amidst all the postwar British proofs: V2279. So, it appears that not only does the gun wear a cut-down barrel, it's also not the original barrel.
