Pair of 3˝” 357 Magnums – Factory Engraved & Factory Two Tone (Pintos)
I posted these two guns here several years ago, however I thought it’s time to post them again.
Here is a pair of S&W factory engraved two tone “Pintos”, both 357 Magnum Revolvers (pre 27’s) in the 3˝” barrel length. Both are in their correct, and seemingly original gold boxes.
One was done to Class A engraving, by Russell Smith, including a signed affidavit to that affect by Mr. Smith. According to the letter from Roy Jinks, it shipped as described to Rex Firearms in February 1956. The grips are smooth rosewood.
The second one is engraved to Class B, and the engravers name is not published by S&W, however it was done by S&W and letters as shipping that way. The letter from Roy Jinks indicates this gun was a special order, and also shipped to Rex Firearms in September 1955. It has smooth rosewood grips, with an ivory diamond shaped insert in the grips. Mr. Jinks states that the exact maker or origin of these grips is unknown and somewhat of a mystery. He also stated that there are engraved guns in the factory with them on so he would say the factory had them. He has seen them on Alvin White engraved guns, and these inlaid grips are pictured in his catalog. However Mr. Jinks is unsure exactly who made them.
One of our extremely knowledgeable members with expertise in this area (Doc44) of factory engraved S&W’s, has suggested he feels it was engraved by Virginia Le Blanc, who was an understudy of Harry Jarvis. The engraved Model 29 in Figure 64 in the SWCA Journal “44 Magnum” The Model 29, was done by her, and has the same ivory inlaid grips as does this revolver.
This is the Class A
This is the Class B

The gun with the ivory diamond insert smooth rosewood grips has always been on my "favorites" list as well !
I will be heading by your way when it cools off this Fall. How about another chili dog and onions rings lunch ?

Great looking set. For some reason I like the B better then the A. Although I would be happy to own either!
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice.
They would look good in a double carved El Paso Saddlery rig.
How do they shoot?
