Default Old M-29 accuracy

A friend and I got out to the range to shoot my 29 no dash
44 Mag. I hadn't owned or shot a 29 in over 30 years.I sighted it in on paper @ 20 yds and we went shooting all the
steel at the range. My friend couldn't believe I could hit a ram
@100 yds with a standing 2 hand hold with full power ammo.
(I did in fact hit it only about half the time) what was more
impressive was hearing the clang(sounded like it was hit with a 5 lb hammer) and seeing the steel shake.
I knew the 44mag was accurate/especially with full power
loads---nice to see SOME things don't change. Pete

Back in the 80s, I toyed with silhouette shooting. Though I had a 29-2 8.375-inch gun, an older 6.5-inch Model 29 was always my favorite. I didn't shoot a lot, but what little I did taught me some interesting things about what I liked in a revolver. Unfortunately, like many young guys going through the school-home building-family routine, I sold that gun (and the 8-incher) and often have regretted that.

I still recall the amusement of knocking over those 200m rams - and the frustration with those nasty turkeys.

Nice looking M29 you have there. They are nice shooting guns, aren't they?

Nice!!!
Looks like the 8 inch barrel?
Do you think the longer barrel helped a lot on those 100 yard shots?

My pre-29 and two 29's are every bit as accurate as anything else I own. one of the 29's has a barrell cut to 4 1/2 inches and the other 2 have 6 1/2 inch barrells.

Here are the targetts, shot off hand at 25 yards, and the guns responsible.(after a grip change the 4 1/2 inch mdl 29 groups better than this.)
