Model 51-0 vs 651-1
Not all choices are easy. So I thought I would ask fellow members for their input. I know firearms are a personal choice...but I'm having a little trouble in deciding which one of the two revolvers I want to purchase. I will use this revolver for plinking and range. Present values seems to be about the same except for the occasional high $$$ on one gun sales site.
For those with a crystal ball...which one will be a better value in 20 years?

I'm far from an Expert but I'd go with the M-51 . IF you intend to shoot it a LOT...the newer gun may be the better deal.

Is the same condition in 20 years as now, the 51 would (in my opinion) be the higher value. But, I'm prejudiced.

You sound set on a 22 mag in a J frame but wondering if you ever experienced the noise, lack of accuracy and expense of ammo that will be forthcoming as compared to a model 34 or 63 in 22 LR. I rarely say this but buy both for future investment or trade bait.

Yes, as described and priced, buy both. If only one, I'd go with the 51. Good luck.

Not an easy decision. I would agree with others on trying to purchase both, shoot them, and decide which one you like best. What the 651 is selling for on the auction sites, you would have little invested in the 51, if that's the one you decide to keep. Either way, if I had both in my hands, wouldn't be able to part with either. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I had three 51's and still own one and really don't understand a blanket comment that they " lack accuracy ". Like all rim fires especially handguns lacking a match chamber you need to mate the gun with the right ammo. Once you find the correct 22 mag ammo these are pretty damned accurate for a 3 1/2" J Frame. Fact is Elmer Keith swore by this gun as his go-to for shooting Fools Hens or Blue Grouse. These were head shots BTW or there wouldn't be any of these tasty birds to eat. I might also add that a good portion of your Western state lion hunters carry a 51 or 651 to finish off treed cats. You need to place that little bullet in the right place or you'll lose a dog or two. Anyway I've yet to own a 51 that couldn't group around 2" or less at 25 yards and that is respectable accuracy for a short barreled small frame revolver handling factory rimfire ammo
