Default When did grip numbering end?

Hello - Generally speaking, is there a year or period at which S&W stopped numbering its wood grips to the guns (such as J-frames), even though they continued to use wood grips? Thanks.

I have one K frame mfg in 1978 that has the full number on the grip, also have another K frame mfg in 1980 that has the last four numbers etched in the grip, Both are original. As many have stated there seems to be no hard and fast rules when it comes to Smiths.

I posted a similar question a few days ago. Consensus seemed to go with IP. I have 21 revolvers (mostly 10-5) and 1 pistol from circa 50 years ago and later. Only 1 of the bunch has a number and it does not match serial number. I think pre 1950 and then closing out in the '70s is a general rule but by no means hard and fast.
