Help Needed: What DID I Just Buy?
It's some kind of .357 M19, I know that much.
serial #20K22**
I see a barrel pin, but that's about as much as I know.
Came with a black, S&W, thumb break leather holster. Tight lockup, nice finish, cycles just fine.
I figured at $375 I should just go ahead and snag it.
What say you?
and thanks

Thank you, gentlemen. I really appreciate the help and information here.
I let my first M19 get away decades ago.
Maybe I should just keep this one.

Model 19-4 K Frame Circa 1977
.357 Magnum/.38 Special, 6 Shot, Pinned Barrel, Adjustable Rear Sights
**Note: The gun appears to have a trigger stop as well.
It's certainly a grail gun.
Thanks for sharing it.......and enjoy

I see something protruding slightly behind the trigger. I'm assuming that's a trigger stop.
What's it's practical function, if any, for personal defense rather than target shooting?

You bought a revolver that would cost at least $150.00 more than that around here. It looks beautiful, enjoy.

$375 was a steal for that gun. Congratulations.

None, really. In fact, S&W used to recommend that the trigger stop be removed from revolvers that were to be used for law enforcement/personal defense.
I have a bunch of those little buggers that I pulled out of cop guns. It seems that the screw can work loose and the stop can move and actually block the trigger and the gun won't fire. NOT a good scenario at all.

Your instincts are good, you really should snag one like that for the money. Some people think the M19 is S&W's best all-around .357. To boot, the shorter barrels command a premium right now, so that is one sweet deal.

That settles it.
It's a keeper.
Something else will go on the block.

Super nice gun. Even though I still have my snub 19-3 I bought new in 1976 I would not pass up another at that price.

Hmm, I have a 66 no dash that's missing the stop. It was a cop's duty gun, and I've heard the same thing about them being removed. I thought I read somewhere that they redesigned later on it so it couldn't do whatever it did to block the trigger.

I still have the one I carried as a Detective-staked my life on it every day and it never failed me. As accurate a gun as you can get with a 2.5" barrel. A superb piece and good buy.

That was definitely a great snag! What a price for a 19 in that condition! Good deal!

Get the tar and the feathers ready - circumstances dictated that I sell it, so I did.
For anyone tracking current values, it brought $497 plus $25 shipping.
At least we still have my wife's nickel M36.

Sorry you had to sell it, but sometimes that's how it goes.

I had to sell some of my favorites last month. It hurts I know. But there is always tomorrow. I plan on replacing what I have lost with a vengeance....

Well, you made a substantial profit. I don't see anything wrong with selling a gun for a lot more than you paid for it.
