Default Herters model 28?

Fellow at the range has a 4" model 28 that has been refinished to look like a pinto, nickeled cylinder, thumb latch, hammer, trigger. The rest of the gun has been smoothed out not the typical rougher finish that you find on 28's and it appears to have been blackened not blued.Markings are still sharp. Overall quite awful looking, well he's trying to get big bucks out of this thing, like $600!! It's in excellent shape other than the awful finish, serial N7xxx puts in late 69 early 70 mfg range. There's a large "H" stamped on the rear of the cylinder so he's assuming that it's a special model made for Herters, sounds like a ploy to get more $ out of it to me but I figured that I'd ask. Did Herters ever market special finished S&W's for sale? Why choose a model that would need polishing when the model 27 was already polished? I only have a cell phone pic of it that I took just for grins before his quest for mega bucks started so I don't have any pics available unless someone wants it sent to their phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Herter's marketed their own .401 Powermag if I remember correctly. I used to buy quite a bit from Herter's in the mid-60s and don't remember them offering any S&Ws.

The "H" is a standard marking on the Model 28 and siginfies the type of finish given to the revolver by S&W.

Thanks DOC, kind of what I thought as I'd never heard of a Herters S&W, believe it or not it sold for $500 last evening on the premise that it was "special". Some folks will buy/believe anything I guess??
