Snagged a 29-2
I'm an N-frame and P&R fan, and I've been looking around for a Model 29-1 or 29-2 just as a shooter, but haven't seen much locally. This past weekend I decided to head to a local gun show just to see what I might find, and low and behold, I think I stumbled across a keeper. It's a blued 29-2 (P&R), 6" bbl, 3Ts, with very low mileage. Except for a tiny scuff under the barrel, I would give this gun a 98%+. No papers, box or tools, but very, very nice. It's specially nice since I was able to haggle a little and get out the door for $500. Serial number is N631156, so the Standard Guide suggests ~1979. The only thing that bothered me a little was the s/n stamping on the yoke...looks like it was ground out and renumbered at the factory, but it matches the frame. Could it just be some sloppy stamping? I think I did okay on this deal.

Nice find and a great price! I too seen one this weekend at a gunshow N7 something with the pres box and tools and the guy walking around with it said $600 and it's yours, very tempting but I already have plenty of them now if it was a 4"er it would have been a deal. You can never have enough 4" N's. I guess I am getting better at passing up deals and saving my money for the next big one! Congrats!

Congratulations!
The 29-2, in 6" is one I have been looking for, for quite some time. I prefer 6" barrels over the 6.5". You got a beautiful gun, at a smokin price. I am happy for you.

That is one fine looking 29. The 29 is on my wish list and will probably be the next one I try to buy. I think you got a great deal too.

Model 29's......you can't have too many. Very nice piece at a very nice price. Shoot it and enjoy it. I have 4 29-2's.....a 4 inch, two 6 1/2 inch, and an 8 3/8 inch. No six inch yet, nor my ultimate find, a 5 inch, but I have time.
Again, a very nice find.

you should feel guilty about the price and go back and give him another few hundred.

Congrats. That's a better price than I paid for my 29-2 a few years ago. Mine is a 6 blue.

A beauty. Re G4F's comment: That 6" versus 6.5" debate and the 6.5" being preferable, I never really understood. Hardly any difference mechanically. As for balance and aesthetics, it seems difficult to discern the difference. Is it just that Dirty Harry used a 6.5"?
