I have multiple sets for each N frame. It's kind of like playing "dress-up" when you change them. I prefer service for shooting due to large hands.

First, let's define short. I speak of the 3.5" barrel, not the 4" tube. I have Targets on my 4" N frames and they look fine. but take off a half inch of barrel and the balance is all wrong with the large stocks. If it could talk a 3.5" 27 would complain that Targets make its ass look big.

I am speaking now not as a gun expert (which I am not) but as an expert on aesthetics (which my graduate degree in visual art and 16 years experience as a college art professor validates as true).

THIS is how a short 27 should look.

I prefer the target grips. Fat bottom grips make the rockin' world go 'round.

I must agree with SAX on this one completely, Magnas only.

"Abomination" is a pretty strong description for target stocks on a 27-2, but I can respect SaxonPig's aesthetic viewpoint. However, if I'm not mistaken, even S&W decided that targets made sense on 27s because they introduced them in 1975 and made them standard in 1980 (although the 3-1/2" bbl was discontinued by then). I have a 4" HP with targets, and a Model 29 with targets- they fit my hand better than magnas when shooting magnum loads. My pre-Model 27 has magnas and shoots well, but it has a 6-1/2" bbl.

In any case, I'm still looking for a blued 3-1/2" Model 27-2, PREFERABLY with target stocks, but magnas would be fine too. I love the design and workmanship of the earlier 27s, but it looks like I'll have to pay at least $700, and probably more. Thanks for all of the feedback.

S&W stated that they decided to make the 27 more deluxe by adding the presentation case and full Target options as standard. All they did with the big hammer, trigger and stocks was make it bulky and ungainly.

THIS is how a short N frame should look.

And this.

Targets look good on a 4"...

Or longer...

I agree completely with SaxonPig on this.

I can not stand Target stocks on a 3 1/2" 27.
