Unhappy cylinder hard to open

I just got a Model 63 today (old one; 6 shot). Got it from gunbroker.com from a pawn broker. Thing was very dirty. I took it apart and cleaned it.

Even before I cleaned it, the cylinder would not open easily. Had to bang it with my hand. Spins OK, haven't shot it but spins on dry fire with snap caps fine. Still cannot open with it now without banging it with my other hand. (I'm a lefty so I hit the cylinder with my right) . Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not going to go to the range with it

On another note, this .22LR is PORTED. Did not see/notice that in the pics. Who would port a little .22? Oh well.

Just the usual. Make sure the ejector rod is screwed in tight, clean under the star extractor with a wire brush, etc.

A ported .22? Go figure.

Ejector rod is a good place to start,
I would like to see the ports on the 63!

It's an old gun. And I'm a new owner. Unter the star extractor is clean. Ejector rod- I turned it the wrong way and opened it then put it back as tight as I could. helped a little bit. now I can push it open instead of smack it. I'm going to have my CCW/cop friend take a look at it.

Went to an indoor target range today. Just shot 50 rds but it worked great. The cylinder opens great now...just as good as the 63 I used in my ccw class. Happy now. 'cept now I really want a .38 snub.... This pea shooter is for snakes and plinking.....

Default One more thing to check!

The front side plate screw, also the yoke retention screw, on the older guns is the same size as the other side plate screws. Two of these screws are oval head and can be mixed up. If you use the wrong one in the front position sometimes it is a tad longer and will bind the yoke when you open the cylinder.

Sorry to bump the oldest thread in the world, but I just wanted to say thank you and that this information should be a sticky haha. I thought I took them out and replaced them in order, but I suppose I didn't!

Thanks again!

sounds ( and looks ) like a NICE gun, keep cleaned and oiled as noted above, some lubriplate on the end of the ejector rod ,especially if its NOT "chamferred" in the inside edge a bit, will make it easy to open,,,they do have to be "fitted" and stainless steel is always a bit more gritty and galls far easier, yes with time and use it will get better,,,,so enjoy

Funny how this works. Denise, the OP, has not been on the forum since 2010. Still, all good information.
