Default model 17 or 18 in 4" ?

I'm a little confused here. Could someone please post some shots of the 17 and the 18 in 4" so I may better see the difference. Most of the 17's seem to be 6" with a few 8 3/8" Not many 17's in 4" Also was the K22 more or less the same as the 17? Great site! To be recommended to anyone thinking about a S&W,with all the input from experienced owners and collectors.

Thanks,
Ischia

Well , generally the K-22 Target Masterpiece , later called the Model 17 does have a 6in tube.

And the K-22 Combat Masterpiece , aka , Model 18 usually does have a 4in bbl.

But we have seen 4in Model 17s and 6in Model 18s here in our members collections. Even factory nickel guns.

Here's my plain ol' 4in Model 18 with target stocks.

The 17 four incher was made in two configurations:A heavy barrel lugless design and a full lug version. The model 18 has a slender lugless barrel.

I have a model 17 4" heavy barrel with out the lug. It's a great woods gun and fun shooter.

Another point: the front sights are different on a M17 and a M18. The Model 18 has a more holster-friendly ramp front sight.

For all practical purposes the K-22 and the Model 17 are the same K-frame .22 revolver.
