Talking New To Me 27-2

Hello. I just wanted to share with everyone the excellent condition Model 27-2 that I picked up today. It is a gun that I have had my eye on at my local gun shop for the past 8 or 9 months. It was on sale as used but it is in amazing shape. I would estimate 99%, maybe better. It is a 6" barrel I think. It has the lightest turn line on the cylinder that I have ever seen and this may only be due to the 3 or 4 times that I handled it in the last several months at the gun store. It has its original wood grips which are immaculate. Its wooden case is not in the best condition, the blue lining is worn and cracked in places and it is missing most of it's tools. To me this is a bit odd because, the revolver appears to be unfired or if it was, I cannot tell. The bore is bright and has no sign of powder or residue or scoring. The front of the cylinder also shows no sign of firing. It is pinned and recessed and has the target hammer and trigger and sights. I paid $750 out the door which is maybe a little high but I am quite happy with it. It also came with a really nice set of Hogue Tulipwood grips which feel nice but their color is not quite right for the gun.

I am also wondering its manufacture date. If anyone could help me with this I would appreciate it. It's serial number is n4463XX.

I have several modern S&W's but I think that now that I have a Model 27, I can really call myself a S&W collector. Now I just need to get a 27-2 with a 3 1/2" barrel to go with it.

Here are some pictures. Not the best but they will do for now. I will take some better pictures in natural sunlight and post later.

Considering the condition of the gun, the presence of the wooden case and truly beautiful target stocks, I don't think $750 was all that high. Those stocks would sell for $100+ as would the case.

Welcome to the 27 club.

What makes the stocks worth $100+??? Lack of the speedloader cutout or condition-cause if it's condition, I've got three pairs of them for sale at that price

Caj-
N-frame wood, condition, football relief, and grain.

SW357Addict-

That is a very fine looking gun! You did great in my opinion. Now you need to find the tools to complete the package.

Just watch the prices of original S&W presentation grips on EBAY. I sold a nice set of smooth K-frame presentations for over $150 about a year ago.

Thats a great looking 27-2,look at the forum's accessories for sale or on ebay for a hollow ground fluted sight tool (screwdriver)and an aluminum based mop and brush

Beautiful 27-2! I bought the older brother to yours N34XXX a few weeks ago. Now I want another one. Enjoy, they're great guns.

Counselor- I guess you haven't noticed but the prices on original stocks for both Colt and S&W have gone through the roof the past couple years. A fair set of N Targets will fetch $40-$60 with ease. Ones with exceptional grain and color will double that or more.

I would ask $125 for these.

Or these.

The ones pictured in the OP are very nice (a bit short of spectacular but very nice) and I would expect to see then sell for $100 without too much waiting. The situation with Colt wood is much worse. Plain vanilla Python stocks can bring $200-$250 if clean. That's the late model ones. The early ones with full checkering will go $300-$400 at times. It's crazy.

This is why so often we see Colts for sale with Pachs. The owner sold the stocks and then sold the gun since the value sold separately can be greater than as a package.

This is also why my box of spare stocks is half of what it used to be. hard to refuse the offers.

That's why I thought this gun was such a great deal at $375. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. The gun was essentially free since those stocks are worth $350.

very nice gun. I regularly see 27-2's go for 850-895 around here at a well known store. I think the store's prices are a little high on most items but still that 750 is a good price for that condition and I would gladly pay that for another 27-2. enjoy it.

as mentioned...welcome to the "27" club....the liner to your case can be restored without a lot of difficulty...your missing tools are probably waiting for you now either here in the for sale section or on ebay...before you buy though...remove the bottom liner of your case (it picks right up) look under there and see if tools, receipts, manual may be there...i have found such "lost" items there on several occasions

Beautiful piece -- a Model 27 is next on my list of desired S&Ws. Thanks for the pix.
