A friend of mine brought over his newly purchased 15-3 and wanted to know if I could fix it. It would not cock for single action firing. I thought "someone ground off the sear on the hammer" but when I examined where the sear notch would be, the surface was not ground or filed. In fact it had "grain" to it and was color cased hardened and it looked like other surfaces that are not machined. I know they made "single action only" hammers. Did they also make "double action only" hammers for, like say, special order law enforcement guns? It is not a bobbed hammer, it looks like any other standard K-frame hammer. He got it really cheap because both he and the seller thought it was "broken". A standard hammer dropped right in and now it functions both ways. Any thoughts?

YES THEY DID MAKE DAO ONLY HAMMERS. WITH AND WITHOUT SPURS. THE NY-1 ARE A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE DAO HAMMER W/O SPUR. ALSO THE DAO HAMMER W/O SPURS WEIGH THE SAME AS A SPUR HAMMER TO ENSURE FULL IMPACT TO THE PRIMER. JP

The LAPD went to DAO after a fellow named deadwyler was shot by a officer after pulling him over for speeding. Deadwyler was rushing his wife to the hospital to have a baby. The cop must have cocked his revolver for "effect", deadwylers foot slipped off the clutch, car lurched forward, knocked the officers arm, gun discharged killing deadwyler. The case made attorney johnney cockran. And that, children, is how OJ got sprung!

Another case of incredibly poor police tactics having a long-term effect!
