Question Anyone know what frame size the S&W model 53 .22 Jet Magnum is?

While looking for correct grips for a pre model 19 I found some appropriate design diamond target grips from a 4 screw model 53 .22 Jet magnum. The seller says they are K frame grips but I just read something about them being a "KTC Frame". I've already bought grips that were mislabeled, mismatched or just don't fit properly so since this is starting to cost a fortune I'd like to verify the correct frame designation for the model 53.

Appreciate any info.

i believe it's a k frame, all grips do not fit all guns as well as they should.

According to the "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" third edition it is a square butt K frame four screw produced from 1961 to 1974.
Hope that helps.

Hi, I think the model 53 has a standard square butt K frame, so the grips/stocks you are describing should fit fine. Watch this space, though, because I may be contradicted by one of the real .22 Jet experts Hope this is helpful.

All 22 center fire magnums "Remington Jets" are K frames. Jeff

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input everyone. With any luck my "quest" for some nice K frame grips will soon be coming to an end.

I'm having the same problem finding grips for the K-frame I picked up the other day. The only grips I've found so far have been aftermarket. The hideous target grip it came with and a set of Harrett's shooting stars fit fine, but a couple set of magna's haven't fit at all. Haven't come across a set of targets to put on it, although thats the plan...

Thumbs down I GOT SNIPED!

I bid on some beautiful target grips on stinking anti gun Ebay and GOT SNIPED!
I had the highest bid for almost a week and in the last seconds of the auction some slimebag using an automated bid sniping program out bid me...
with NINE SECONDS REMAINING!
Right now I'm spitting nails, and considering filing a complaint with the FTC.

How ebay thinks this is fair is beyond reason. It's like stealing.
I would never allow someone to sneak a bid in at the last few seconds just to out bid someone. They don't even extend bidding for 5 minutes like other online auction sites to allow for a counter bid
But then liberal anti gunners have no sense of morality and what's fair and what's not. I'll be closing my ebag account - their loss.

I hope that rat b*stard coward bidder sleeps soundly knowing he couldn't out bid me fair and square.

Gee, thanks for the support.
I'm plenty "bid savvy," I've won every bid I've placed on internet auctions, with the sole exception being ebay thanks. But no human can compete with an automated program. Including you.
I don't think you understand how Ebay works, or doesn't work, when you're bidding against a machine...

Don't know if you've already tried it, but placing a "Wanted To Buy" ad here on the Forum may get you the stocks you need. If you have a pre-1967 gun you need diamond Targets with the football cutout, and after 1967 the non-diamond type.

I understand fully your frustration with certain nameless auction sites. The bidding process stinks. When the "no selling of parts capable of making a gun fire" policy began, I immediately killed off my 180+ positive feedback account and sent them a message explaining the reason why. I guess they figured they could absorb the gun people leaving and really, really feel better about themselves. So what happens when they decide that grips, sights and other parts make a gun capable of firing?

I have found everything I needed on the gun auction sites since then - not as easily, but my money goes to people I want to support. Food for thought.
